First Stop

Greetings from Holland,

I am sitting at my layover in Amsterdam. It’s 4:44 AM in Vancouver, and I’m surprisingly not tired. If I sleep now, I won’t sleep tonight (it’s like 3PM in Holland… or something like that), so I’m pulling an “all-nighter” even though there wasn’t really a night for me.

As soon as I got on the plane I thought to myself “what the heck am I doing?” I know that part of following the gospel is leaving all of your worldly posessions, and going to the nations. I was fine with that part. The part I’m missing are my friends and family who actually live in Canada. Why would anyone, ever want to leave Canada?

Both last night and this evening, the sky in Vancouver has been un-freaking-believable. I drove over the second narrows bridge right as the sun was blood-orange in the sky over the water. Then, today, the light was pouring between the mountains and shining like glitter as I flew over them. I felt incredibly home sick as I left, and having 2 whole plane letters to read (which were amazing) made me cry a little, not going to lie. Also, I got an iced cap to have on the plane. Daaaaaaaang I didn’t realize earlier that it would be a long time until I had one of those again.

To add to the home-sickness, as soon as we land in Amsterdam, an advertisement for “Visit BC… the most beautiful place on earth!” plays with clips of the Rockies and the west coast and downtown Vancouver and all of the things that I was just missing. Thanks, KLM, for showing an ad for the place that you just left upon arrival at the new destination. Why couldn’t they play an ad for somewhere in Europe? That would be exciting, wouldn’t it?

Oh well… so far, so good. Other than the 200$ fine I had for an extra bag (seriously?! I budgeted for under 100$ maximum!) Miss you, Vancouver!

First stop Jackson, next stop Shangri-La
Just kidding… next stop Berlin!
